This workshop will explore a person-centred approach to art therapy. I'd like to share a brief overview of the work of Natalie Rogers and Liesl Silverstone, define a person centred approach to creative arts therapy and describe the development of the Association for Person Centred Creative Arts (APCCA). I'd like to show how using art in therapy can be an incredibly powerful and yet gentle way to work, one that can promote communication, relational depth, congruence and deepen the experience of empathy. I'll highlight the importance of non-directive facilitation when working with art, and share some case study examples to illustrate. I'll invite participants to engage in a creative exercise, and I will offer a demonstrate facilitation. There will also be space for Q & A. If possible, please bring some simple art materials, (paper, pens, pencils) or alternatively you can use a digital art app.
